We’re heading back to Minneapolis, Minnesota, home of Nordic Ware and the Bundt pan, for a hands-on cake-baking retreat. From tips for baking beautiful Bundt cakes to learning how to successfully build and decorate layer cakes, this baking retreat is for all bakers looking to improve their cake-baking skills. Baking classes will be led by our very own editor-in-chief, Brian Hart Hoffman, Brooke Bell, and some other amazing bakers who will be announced very soon. Plus, you’ll get exclusive access to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Nordic Ware factory so you can see how Bundt pans are made, from start to finish.

Arrive in Minneapolis and get settled into the Four Seasons Minneapolis. This brand-new property is opening in June and has sweeping views of the Mississippi River. Located close to the North Loop district, you’ll be steps away from great restaurants and the riverfront. We’ll have an afternoon welcome reception from 3 to 4 p.m. at the nearby Cooks of Crocus Hill North Loop location so you can meet our team and your fellow bakers. Dinner will be on your own with our list of top restaurants to try while you’re in Minneapolis.

Note that check-in time is 3 p.m. If your room is not ready upon arrival, the hotel can store your luggage.

Day 1 of Baking: We’ll head to Cooks of Crocus Hill St. Paul for a day of hands-on cake baking. Lunch, tea, and coffee will be provided, and class will run from 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. Transportation in a private coach will be provided to and from the cooking school. Dinner will be on your own with our list of top restaurants to try while you’re in Minneapolis.

We’ll start our day at Nordic Ware headquarters by tasting some of the best pastries and baked goods from around Minneapolis. Then Jennifer Dalquist, a third-generation leader of the company, will share the story of how her grandparents changed the baking world with the Bundt pan before leading us on a VIP tour to see how a Bundt pan comes to life. After the tour, we’ll have a shopping experience at Nordic Ware’s factory store, where you can score some great deals and select a Bundt pan of your choice to take home with you. We will conclude with a Bundt recipe demonstration in Nordic Ware’s beautiful new demo and photography space. These retreat activities will run from 9:45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. Transportation in a private coach will be provided to and from Nordic Ware. Dinner will be on your own with our list of top restaurants to try while you’re in Minneapolis.

Day 2 of Baking: Get ready for another day of cake baking at Cooks of Crocus Hill St. Paul. Lunch, tea, and coffee will be provided, and class will run from 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. Transportation in a private coach will be provided to and from the cooking school. Dinner will be on your own with our list of top restaurants to try while you’re in Minneapolis.

Accommodations in Minneapolis
We’ll stay at the brand-new Four Seasons Minneapolis. This property is located downtown near the North Loop and has sweeping views of the Mississippi River.

Booking
The full price of the trip (100%) is due at booking. Your reservation will be confirmed upon receipt of payment. We accept payment by American Express, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, and Amazon Pay. Trip prices are in US dollars.

Travel to and from Minneapolis
Guests are responsible for getting themselves to Minneapolis and to the Four Seasons Minneapolis on Wednesday, June 22, when the retreat commences. Guests will be responsible for getting themselves from the Four Seasons Minneapolis to the airport or their next destination on Sunday, June 26. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is located about 13 miles away from the hotel.

Costs
The price of the trip includes all hotel accommodations, all baking classes, some meals, and some private coach transfers to/from retreat activities.

Single-occupancy, double-occupancy, and baking participant plus non-baking guest rates are available.

Your credit card will be charged by Hoffman Media, the parent company of Bake from Scratch.

Cancellation
Since the trip is nonrefundable, we suggest buying trip insurance. You can also check with your credit card company to see if they provide travel insurance.

If you don’t purchase travel insurance, you agree to indemnify us against any charges that might otherwise be covered by your insurance. You further agree that we are not responsible for any costs of cancellation or costs related to COVID-19. Due to COVID-19, there may be limitations relating to activities. Certain services and amenities may be reduced or unavailable as a result of changing circumstances. Please know that we are working closely with our partners to plan and execute a safe baking retreat for our guests, but there is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 when traveling. By booking this baking retreat, you acknowledge and assume these risks associated with travel. 

If a mandatory quarantine for visitors is in effect for travel during the retreat, the retreat will be cancelled, and your money will be refunded in full. You are responsible for following all local COVID-19 guidelines that might be in place at the time of the retreat.

We reserve the right to cancel this retreat if fewer than 16 participants have signed up by June 1, 2022. We will send an email confirmation to all participants when this number has been met. If Bake from Scratch initiates the cancellation, we will refund all payments. Please note that we will be monitoring travel advisories related to the COVID-19 pandemic closely.

Can I extend my stay at the hotel?
If you’d like to inquire about additional nights at the hotel, please email events@bakefromscratch.com.

Is breakfast included?
Breakfast pastries will be provided with coffee and tea upon arrival at the cooking school each day. Breakfast at the hotel is not included.  

Are children able to attend this retreat?
All participants must be 18 years old or older to attend this baking retreat.

What should I plan to wear during baking classes?
Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Long hair should be pulled back. Aprons will be provided.

Are the baking classes hands-on?
Yes, all baking classes will be hands-on. We will also have a recipe demonstration class at Nordic Ware.

Is this retreat better suited for professionals or home bakers?
Our retreats are geared for passionate home bakers, but professionals are always welcome.

What will we be baking?
Bundt cakes, layer cakes, and one-layer cakes!

What if I attended the Bundt retreat in the fall of 2021? Will this retreat be different?
Yes! We will teach all-new recipes, introduce you to new bakers, and the day at Nordic Ware will be revamped with a recipe demo in their new demo and photography space.

Will we have any free time?
You will have some free time in the afternoons and evenings. We will equip you with our list of favorite bakeries and restaurants.

Is transportation around Minneapolis included?
Transportation in a private coach will be provided to all daily baking classes and Nordic Ware. The welcome reception will be held near the hotel, about a 10-minute walk away. Guests will be responsible for their own arrival and departure transportation to/from the Four Seasons Minneapolis and dinners on their own. Guests will also be responsible for any transportation deviations they choose to make to/from scheduled retreat activities.  

I want to bring my travel companion, but they don’t want to participate in the baking classes. What can they do?
We offer a baking participant plus non-baking guest package for this very reason! This package allows you to bake and participate in all retreat activities while your travel companion explores Minneapolis on their own. As a part of this package, hotel accommodations and the welcome wine reception is included. Plus, they’ll get to enjoy all of your delicious baked goods after class.
