Bakers will depart the hotel for a hands-on culinary experience in Fernanda Giamello’s Alba kitchen, preparing lunch and baking traditional Piemontese items such as baci da dama, grissini, pasta, and so much more. This is a really special experience learning about and celebrating the foods and traditions of the region.

Wednesday, May 31, 2023

No visit to this region is complete without seeing and touring the hazelnut farms. You’ll quickly see why this area is home to Ferrero and our beloved Nutella! During this day, you’ll also visit the town of Alba to enjoy shopping, food, wine, and amazing architecture. Conclude the day with a group dinner at Castello di Guarene.

Thursday, June 1, 2023

Depart Piemonte region to visit the seaside town of Camogli for a taste of focaccia al formaggio, traditional Genoese focaccia, and chat with local food expert Enrica Monzani. Then, proceed to Santa Margherita for one night on the Italian Riviera. We’ll enjoy dinner as a group in picturesque Portofino, where trofie al pesto Genoese is the local specialty. Accommodations will be provided at Grand Hotel Miramare.

Friday, June 2, 2023

After a fabulous night on the coast, we are off to the medieval town of Siena in Tuscany for three nights. Accommodations will be provided at Grand Hotel Continental Siena, the town’s only five-star hotel. After arrival, you are on your own to explore the town and enjoy the sights; then, you’ll meet our editor-in-chief, Brian Hart Hoffman, for aperitivo to get in the spirit of this amazing town.

Saturday, June 3, 2023

Bakers will spend a day in Giulia Scarpaleggia’s home kitchen baking and preparing a Tuscan lunch to be served overlooking the region’s famous hillside.

Sunday, June 4, 2023

A visit to two favorite places in Siena that we love! First, we will stop in Antica Drogheria Manganelli to learn about their panforte spice blends before proceeding to Panificio il Magnifico bakery to taste their famous Sienese specialties. We will end with a group dinner before our adventure concludes the next day.

Monday, June 5, 2023

Can I extend my stay at the hotels?

Is breakfast included?

Daily breakfast is included.

Are children able to attend this retreat?

All participants must be 18 years old or older to attend this baking retreat.

What should I plan to wear during baking classes?

Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Long hair should be pulled back. Aprons will be provided.

Are the baking classes hands-on?

Yes, all baking classes will be hands-on.

If I book a double-occupancy package, will the hotel room have two beds?

Due to the uniqueness and European charm of the hotels, double-occupancy rooms do not have two beds. Two sets of linens for one bed can be provided upon request.

Is this retreat better suited for professionals or home bakers?

Our retreats are geared for passionate home bakers, but professionals are always welcome.

What will we be baking?

In Alba, we’ll learn how to prepare Piemontese items such as baci da dama, grissini, and pasta. In Tuscany, we’ll bake cantucci and other local specialties.

Will we have any free time?

You will have some free time in each region to explore the areas on your own. We will equip you with our list of our favorite bakeries, restaurants, and activities.

I want to bring my travel companion, but they don’t want to participate in the baking classes. What can they do?

We offer a baking participant plus non-baking guest package for this very reason! This package allows you to bake and participate in all retreat activities while your travel companion explores the regions we will visit on their own. As a part of this package, hotel accommodations, daily breakfast, welcome wine reception, group dinners, wine tasting, hazelnut experience, Liguria focaccia experience, and transportation to/from the train station for group transfer is included for your non-baking companion.

To reserve your space, email events@bakefromscratch.com. You will be required to pay your deposit within 48 hours. Reservations will be taken in the order in which we receive emails.
